Assistant Professor of Philosophy (Limited Term)

St. Joseph's College at the University of Alberta

Full-Time • Edmonton, Alberta, Canada

St. Joseph’s College at the University of Alberta invites applications for a two-year full-time faculty position, to begin in July 2025.

Area of Specialization: History of Philosophy, especially pre-modern philosophy.
Areas of Competence: Philosophical Anthropology and Business Ethics.

The successful candidate is expected to teach undergraduate courses at the advanced intermediate level on Aquinas and Augustine, survey courses in Ancient and Medieval Philosophy, and courses in Philosophical Anthropology. Ability to teach Business Ethics is highly desired.

A limited-term appointment at St. Joseph’s College typically carries a required course load of 8 courses across the academic year, but teaching obligations can be reduced if research expectations are increased. The successful candidate is eligible for research/professional expenses up to $1,500 per annum and may be eligible to apply for internally-competitive research grants. All full-time appointments offer competitive salaries and include full benefits, including reimbursement of some relocation expenses.

QUALIFICATIONS
Candidates must demonstrate commitment to, and excellence in, undergraduate teaching as informed by current practice and scholarship in the field. We expect the candidate to have or be in the very last stages of pursuing a Ph.D. in Philosophy. Completed Ph.D. is highly preferred.

● a writing sample of no more than 25 pages (or one published article);
