EDITH STEIN IN DIALOGUE
PHENOMENOLOGY, METAPHYSICS, THEOLOGY
July 11-13, 2025
8th Biennial IASPES International Conference at the Catholic University of America, Washington, DC, USA
Co-Sponsored by
The Center for Carmelite Studies
and The School of Philosophy at
The Catholic University of America
Edith Stein exemplifies the dialogical nature of philosophy. Her writings cross the borders between realist and transcendental phenomenology, phenomenology and metaphysics, philosophy and theology, Carmelite spirituality and philosophical anthropology, to name a few.
This conference highlights Edith Stein in dialogue, both in relation to the history of thought and to future development. The Stein Circle (IASPES) invites scholars to explore the dialogical nature of Stein’s thought in several ways:
- First, how does Stein dialogue with other thinkers and traditions within her writings, interpreting and integrating their thought into hers?
- Second, how have philosophers and theologians interpreted and received Stein’s work, critically and constructively?
- Third, how might scholars further develop Stein’s thought through dialogue with recent traditions, such as the theological turn in phenomenology, Thomistic personalism, etc.?
Abstracts (~250 words) for papers about the above themes or those connected to Stein’s philosophy in general may be sent to [email protected].
More information will be posted at www.edithsteincircle.com/2025
Deadline for abstracts: April 11, 2025
Online participation will be available.
