Assistant Professor of Philosophy

St. Vincent de Paul Regional Seminary

Full-Time • Boynton Beach, Florida

Position Summary:

St. Vincent de Paul Regional Seminary (SVDP) is seeking a full-time assistant professor in philosophy, beginning August 2024 for the 2024-2025 academic year. SVDP seeks a practicing Catholic candidate with a strong commitment to excellence in teaching and research with a background in the Catholic intellectual tradition, contemporary philosophy, and missionary discipleship. The successful candidate will teach graduate courses in the two-year Master of Arts in Philosophical Studies for Missionary Discipleship (MAPS) program, engage in scholarly research leading to publications, and contribute to the seminary’s academic life and formative community. The MAPS degree provides graduate philosophical training to seminarians preparing for the priesthood and lay students preparing for further graduate theological or philosophical studies.

Responsibilities:

Teach up to 18 graduate credits per academic year in philosophy, including diverse introductory courses and courses in the candidate’s area of specialization
Develop and maintain an active research agenda aimed at scholarly publications
Advise and mentor graduate students
Participate in departmental and university service, including committee work and other duties as assigned
Contribute to the academic community through participation in conferences, workshops, and other scholarly activities

Qualifications:

Licentiate or Doctorate (secular or ecclesiastical) in Philosophy
Can teach a broad range of courses in philosophy as they connect to the Catholic intellectual tradition and missionary discipleship
Is a practicing Roman Catholic that has a well-grounded understanding of Catholic theology and magisterial teaching
Strong communication skills and desire to collaborate on a team
Strong research skills with evidenced potential for continued growth in scholarly achievements

Preferred Qualifications:

Specialization or focus in contemporary philosophy
History of demonstrated excellence in teaching graduate philosophy, including active learning approaches
Experience with interdisciplinary teaching and research
Experience with online or hybrid course delivery
Experience advising and mentoring graduate students
Bilingual: Fluency in both English and Spanish
Experience in seminary settings with knowledge of the Program for Priestly Formation, 6th edition.
